History of the Dodge:

In the year 1937 there were about 11600 vehicles made by 121 various producers in the American army. But all of those vehicles were destined to road use by the end of their construction. In connection with the Europe situation the ministry or army closed agreement with concern for Chrysler for development and deliveries of utility vehicles with all axles drive. The factory Dodge offered its 1, 5 lorry prototypes with 4x4 drives, grid cover of colour and front lights with two spare wheels on the front fenders and firm hind axle with double assembly for tests. A smaller series was delivered and the factory worked on further development. The army increased its demands for the number of pieces and so the concern leadership agreed to use the whole automobile factory capacity for the terrain automobile production.
During the months April and May successful drive tests took place and the agreement was signed. 672 Dodge vehicles were already produced at that time. The automobile factory produced 0, 5 utility automobile for the army in three basic variants-platform lorry, command and health service. In 1940 also the production of 0, 75 t vehicle was commenced, 255,000 pieces of this type were produced in ten body variants.
In 1941 till 1945 400000 automobile pieces of the same mark were produced in the frame of state agreements including 1, 5 t six wheel ones.
One of the most interesting versions was the Dodge Wc-51 and WC-52. The type WC-52 had a forward extended buffer with the mounted winch, differing from the type WC-51, which had only a simple buffer, placed close to the mask. Its name was the weapon carrier.
